Modulus is a robot designed for adaptation to the widest possible range of applications with its modular Techno-Cake system, robot parts and accessories. Modularity, hence its name, is one of its principal characteristics. Available in three configurations - Base, Service & Security, and Moddy. Moddy is the third and most advanced version of the robot. It is obtained by adding a torso, two arms, and a head onto the Techno-Cake and Base. Moddy is fitted with a phonemes synthesizer, speech recognition, infra-red communication, an IBM PC compatible 16-bit computer with 128Kb ROM and 256Kb RAM, and a home security module that allows the robot to signal the presence of smoke, gas, and intruders. At the first sign of danger, it can inform a computer or trigger a siren or preset vocal message with the phonemes synthesizer module. Two arms with ample freedom of movement and considerable gripping power can be used to carry trays and other items. Its head and big eyes makes it a really human character, reliable, and a companion to play with.
Sirius became the European distributor of the RB5X robot by RB Robot Corporation in 1984 and was inspired to develop their own robot the same year.
The Modulus robots were designed by Isao Hosoe Design Studio who won the Compasso D’Oro award in 1986 for its design.
A Modulus Moddy robot is currently on display at The Norwegian Museum Of Science And Technology.
